Playa de Vargas

A few weeks ago I was shooting in Vargas with Philip Köster and the guys of Boards magazine, who were testing the champions gear, it was such a good experience and we ended up having a couple of really nice shots, which you will see at the Autum/Winter issue of the magazine, of course I'm not publishing those pictures here, but I also could take some shoots from some of the locals who were sailing early morning that saturday, it was a pitty, Fernando, one of the most classic riders of the island, left tho see the F1 before the group shot.

Pictures

Here you have a few pictures from the last two or three weeks in Gran Canaria and as the Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival is about to start and nearly everybody will be on 2013 gear, I guess is no problem if I already publish some pictures with the new equipment.

Danger point (preview)

Today the wind was too North and by noon even turned a little bit to the West, that means no wind at all in Pozo Izquierdo, but in a round shaped island there's always a place where the wind blows from the right direction.

Friday

Last Friday, with the high tide, we saw a couple of nearly mast high sets and the wind was perfect (4,5), we thought we were about to have an epic afternoon session, but after that, conditions deteriorated; we had a nice afternoon session, but not the epic one we were expecting, not even close, but don't missunderstand me, I'm not complaining, I don't even know how many consecutive days we have been windsurfing this spring.

Always learning

Great conditions today in Pozo Izquierdo, strong winds (maybe a little bit too strong) and nice waves, the sun was the one missing the party, so, knowing I didn't have the light for the pictures but having such good conditions for windsurfing, I decided to try something different and I went with the fisheye for the first time in Pozo, but instead of the 5D (the camera I always use for the water) I went with the 7D wich is faster and has crop factor, so the fisheye effect is not as pronounced.
Despite not having any great pictures from this session, now I know how to fine tune the settings for this combination and what to tell the riders to do when I go with this lens in Pozo Izquierdo again.

Ramones

I know I said I would post today more pictures from yesterday afternoon, but I'm so tired after the session I had this afternoon in super gusty conditions and well underpowered with 4,7 that I just need to stretch and go to bed early. The wind is supposed to die for two days, so I'll have time to edit the pictures then.
Of course I was not doing a post without pictures, so here's one of the end of the session, the wind dropped and Pablo changed from the small to the medium board (the one in the picture) which seems to work really well in all kind of conditions.

Backside 360

I think that was fall 2001, Björn called me to do some shoots of the new sail for next year; conditions were not great but the light was perfect and we were in a hurry, so we went to Vargas for some uncrowded action.
When you see this picture now it's obvious he is trying a backside 360, but back then I had no clue what he was going for.
